[He's alive, but at what cost? Martin's finally laid down on the lumpy, disgusting mattress because he's getting too dizzy to stand. Or type full sentences.]
[ Sending this to Martin's PRIVATE INBOX so no children can see it! ]
Hey. How you holding up? [ He does not, in fact, actually care. However... ] Don't listen to the kid. He's a kid. Short those motherfuckers out if you can.
['Poorly' is the real answer. He's not inclined to share that, though. Hence... text. He's also ignoring that question.]
It's not a bad idea from him. I think he's just worried about me.
[And doing a decent job trying to mask it, but Martin's dealt with pre-Archivist Jonathan Sims. He thinks he can spot some similar tells for actual concern through all the bluster. Or maybe that's just him looking for the best in people still.]
And I'm not sure I have enough water left in here to short out more than one other pad. So, I can leave that one and get the last one when it takes off. Still working on getting out. I'll keep everyone updated.
Hey! How are you holding up, buddy? Feeling any better?
Don't worry about R. I'm heading for him now. Make sure nobody follows me. I'm trusting you. I don't want anybody else putting themselves at risk. After I failed everyone the first time it's only right that I'm the one who goes after him. By myself. I know first aid so if he's in bad shape, I can patch up what I need to until we can get more help.
You do all of us a favor and you just worry about yourself. Don't wanna think about what we'd turn into without you around! We'd probably eat each other.
[Martin stares at the message, then at the ceiling for a while. This man brought him water and food, helped to rescue him. He's been generally genial on the network. But god is this throwing up so many red flags. Peter Lukas' voice comes through loud and clear in his head. He needs Martin, Martin is special and important, and they need to keep quiet, a secret between them. This might be more benign, but he's absolutely going to tell Jet. And probably Cohle.]

What would you do, if you were me? You know why I have to do this.
You and Jet need to take care of the kid. The most important thing is that he's safe. If he finds out about this, we both know he's going to do something stupid.
[ There's the customary burst of static over the walkie talkie followed by the sound of K's characteristically calm voice. Not an emergency situation, just checking in. ]
Martin? You there? It's K.
[ If Martin doesn't answer, K will intermittently keep trying until he does pick up. ]
[ Oh hey, something K's good at. Maybe some tips will help. ]
It's okay, just wanted to check in with you. Do you have a knife? Try using the back— the side that isn't sharp, to scrape away the scales. Seems counterintuitive, but it's the best way if you're not using a scaler knife. You caught the fish?
[ That's a relief. At least he has food. Well, potential food. ]
The file Martin receives is a monochromatic, low-resolution 240p photo of some vibrant jungle flowers, the high contrast suggesting it was taken in bright sunlight. Despite the low visual quality, the artful framing hints at the photographer possibly having some experience with still life photography.
[Martin stops for a moment while he's walking with Jet. As he looks at the photos--actual photos!--that have appeared on his transceiver, he feels a blush creeping across his cheeks. K. This is K's callsign and he's sending Martin pictures of flowers? What?
Presumably, the man has found some sort of upgrade. But the pictures are nice, even if they're sort of grainy. Why is K sending this to him? Or- well, he might be sending them to a lot of people for a test. That's probably it. Just a test.]
That's lovely! :) What color are they? And it's good to know these things can do video.
[Maybe he could ask for a selfie of K? No. No, that would be weird and creepy.]

Sorry! There were some fish and I'm trying to descale them. They're all sort of slimy and fishy and- y-yeah. Hi!

Um... you can just call me Martin. It's okay, really. But-but I copy! Over. [Softer:] I don't think we have to say over, either.

I prefer to use callsigns rather than names over the radio. You can call me Sierra, if you need a name.
Martin, I heard you were in some kind of bunker. Can you tell me about it?
